Stop male calf selling and killing!!

Today a two months old male calf was sold to a butcher for 300 rupees.

I live in a countryside area where all people mostly have cows, goats, hens etc. These are mainly farmers whose main occupation is agriculture. They also sell milk from their cows and goats. Every year these cows are bred and they give births to 2-3 offspring.

          I have always been fascinated by how people get happy when a baby cow is born. They tell everyone happily and also celebrate about it. In a world where female feticide is a rampant problem, people getting happy about a female birth is a very heartwarming feeling, may that be an animal. But what happens with the bulls is just like female feticide. In the animal world females are treasured more and have high value than males.

          As I stood there crying at my door, looking at the beautiful calf being taken away to meet his fate, I wondered whether the owners had no other option but to sell it. Is killing the bull for meat the only way left to use him??My father told me that nobody buys male calves these days as everybody gets their work done by tractors, machines, etc. It’s not feasible for them to take care of so many calves that are born every year and the number only increases.

          This made me think, whether humans have lost their humanity. As the owners clearly knew that the buyer would be killing the innocent newborn for its meat and selling it away. They could have simply left him somewhere far away. As you might be reading this, the calf would already be slaughtered.

          In a country where cows are worshiped, this is what happens with them. If they stop producing milk they are sold. What about the years of innocent dedication and loyalty towards the owner? Even domestic helpers get paid and if they bring their children, they have to be taken care of. But these animals, they work hard, they give milk everyday but their owners don’t even keep their young ones. Not to forget that these cows are artificially inseminated by owners themselves at the first place!!

          Is this what we have come to? The human race cares for any individual may that be any animal or human only when it is useful. Else thrown away. I still remember the mother cow mooing for its calf which was forcefully dragged away. I was watching helplessly, asking my father to buy it from them. Fighting with him over the issue, cursing the owners. I couldn’t do anything.

 I hope that this thing stops. 

Killing innocent animals who are not born and bred for their meat should be illegal!!
